What product can i use to shape my hair and give volume without it being crunchy and hard?

I've only ever tried hairspray once and i hate that it makes my hair feel gross. I like the feeling of my naturally straight hair and i want to know if there are any products that can still give me the softness yet can give me some volume. Thanks :)
